Introduction

Bradfield Residential Home is a family run Residential Care Home which was established in 1995 providing care and accommodation for 37 residents aged 65 and over. Bradfield is an Edwardian manor house set in mature gardens in the quiet coastal village of Walmer.

Generals Meadow Care Home was originally established in 1985 and is registered to support 19 residents aged 65 and over. Generals Meadow as a residential care home is a substantial former mansion house built by Herbert Baker in the Dutch Colonial style and it represents his best architectural  work.

Research & Development

Previous Connectivity Setup And Issues

Bradfield Residential Home and Generals Meadow were experiencing regular internet dropouts and weak Wi-Fi coverage in certain areas of their buildings. This caused frustration for staff and made it harder to rely on connected systems.

Like many care providers, both homes needed to prepare for the upcoming Digital Switchover, when traditional analogue phone lines will be switched off and services will need to run over the internet.

Orbital Net had already been providing connectivity to Bradfield Residential Home for several years. 

Because we understood the building, the layout and the needs of the care team, we were in the best position to design the right solution for Generals Meadow. 

The Solution

Connected Care for Modern Living

At Bradfield Residential Home, we upgraded their internet connection to full fibre (FTTP), providing faster and more stable speeds. 

We also improved the internal Wi-Fi network by installing additional access points throughout the home. This ensured strong, consistent coverage in bedrooms, offices and communal areas. 

Their phone system was upgraded to a modern digital solution (3CX with DECT handsets), allowing calls to run over the internet and ensuring the home is fully prepared for the Digital Switchover. 

Following the success at Bradfield, we carried out a similar upgrade at Generals Meadow. 

We connected the two homes using a secure wireless link, allowing them to share a high-speed fibre connection (sectioning off some for a separate property onsite). The Wi-Fi network was improved across the building, and the same digital phone system was installed, creating one simple, reliable system across both homes.
